The must-haves are moto jackets, perfect for city living. In fact, you’re going to need more than one, for sure. That’s one for work, and one for nights, and…well, give it some thought, anyway. Mix rock goddess with street style, à la Parisienne, of course. Then pose for the paparazzi, or the fashion photographers, or both. Choose any colour you like, anything in the spectrum, they’re all there.
Biker jackets have always had a point to make with their metal and their zips – but don’t look to the past. Why do they have to be black? Consider colour, and contrast biker style with a flimsy, floaty dress above flat ankle boots.
Cropped tops have been with us for a while, with the trend now moving towards oversize. Last season, we started to see cropped, boxy jackets. Add a leather one to your wardrobe for that cool, high-waisted look. Wear a fitted one atop a full skirt, or team a loose-fitting version with slim trousers. Go arty and mix layers of different lengths.
Now, those colours we were talking about…black, which we also mentioned before, is timeless and classic, but a tan jacket over your favourite pastel shades makes for ideal daywear. Colours can be bright, neutral, or anything in between. Let them say something about you, and make it something memorable.
Draped jackets need to be cut from soft, thin, malleable skin. Go for an open style, with longer drapes at the front. Add them to bodycon dresses for a nocturnal twist.
Make a statement with tailoring. Choose a single-breasted blazer that hugs your body, and be prepared for that special occasion. With tux-style pants and stilettos, you’ll be ready for anything.
Layers were invented for the British weather! Leather on top of wool, especially over a hoodie, gives you a really chic look; or accessorise it with a colourful scarf.
Leather has a distinctive feel of its own, but why not offset it with different textures and thicknesses, as we’ve already suggested? When it’s worn-in, it has a lovely soft feel. If you’re lucky enough to own one in this condition already, pull on a thick-knit sweater first. Or seek out a jacket with shearling trims for an stylish contrast.
Shorter sleeves – elbow length, for example – look effective with pretty frocks, following the heavy-plus-light theme again. And they’ll keep you snug in our months of in-between temperatures. You should get plenty of wear from them, in that case!
From denim to chiffon, and from smart to casual, you can’t go wrong with leather. We’re sure you will be inspired to dream up your own styles, and we look forward to seeing them on the streets!
